It is hard to zoom Legros on Google Earth. We just see the river and the sea in Roseaux, and trees in Legros. No development infrastructures. No School, no clinic. Family homes are very basic. The first action of Crefis in 2016, was to provide tools and seeds to family leaders in Legros. The idea behind this activity was to help family leaders to provide food to their children. It was an invitation to collaborate with Mother Nature in developing agriculture. Going back to the Earth and protecting the Environment are among the specific objectives of Crefis
The experience of 2016 was quite good. Crefis did not just provide seeds and tools for groups of Family in Legros. the idea was to start a bank of seeds and tools. After the harvest, the beneficiaries should give back twice of the seeds they have received. They did not. However, Crefis fell the obligation to continue the distribution in 2019 considering it was a way to help to brake the circle of poverty, waiting for the moment to structure the bank of seeds and tools.

Haiti is a mountainous country. 80% of land are mountainous. In the region, we just have sloping land. This method of agriculture is practiced in Philippines. Crefis was to introduce it in Haiti. It is imperative to conserve the few trees we have. With 4% of vegetation cover, this agricultural method will contribute to the re-forestation of Haiti’s mountain and the restoration of the ecosystem.
Crefis has already started planting trees and seeds of yuca in Legros in 2024 and 2025. The land will be used as the main farm. This land is a good place to initiate the sloping farming. Groups of farmer of Legros will come to practice sloping farming. They will use the new agricultural practice in their own land. They will be able to learn how to build ramps with curbs and plants.

In 2016, Crefis decided to take a picture of the houses of Legros. Perhaps, in 20 years we will see the progress made in the area. The situation of the house lie with the economic situation of the population. Crefis’ ideal is to accompany family leaders to gain dignity through work and discipline. Thereafter, family leaders will build decent homes for their family. However, Crefis does not rule out the possibility to help family leaders to build homes for their family.
